Ear Nose and Throat (ENT Otolaryngology Otorhinolaryngology)
ENT Doctors, known as Otolaryngologists, diagnose, treat and prevent abnormal medical conditions of the eye, ear, throat, head and neck. ENT specialists are trained surgeons capable of addressing conditions with surgical procedures where applicable as well as with non-surgical modalities. Otolaryngologists complete 4 years of medical school. Then, to be certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, they must complete 5 years of special training, and finally, pass a Board exam.
Disorders typically treated by ENT specialists are conditions relating to eating, drinking, swallowing, breathing, hearing and sleeping. ENT conditions are highly interdependent on the complex relationship of these organs and body parts, requiring significant diagnostic and surgical skills.
Your ENT Doctor is trained and capable of doing both the medical and surgical management of your condition. An Otolaryngologist (ENT) will typically be enlisted to do the surgery and reconstruction related to cancers and benign tumors of the face and neck. Many New York City ENT Doctors specialize in treating the unique concerns and vocal cord conditions of career vocal artists and performers.
