Dr. Febin Melepura learned the importance of dealing with an injury correctly the hard way. He fractured his ankle when he was younger and found that it never healed correctly. As a result, his athletic performance in high school was never quite the same — until he found the right treatment much later in life. While in medical school at Stony Brook University, Dr. Melepura suffered sciatica pain that made the long drives to his clinical rotations miserable. However, this time around, he found a great doctor who quickly got him back to 100 percent. It was those two incidents, along with his upbringing, that nurtured his desire to address problems head on and fix them, as well as to focus on the prevention of injury, wellness, nutrition and self-empowerment. His father, a mechanic, and his mother, a pharmacist, were both in the business of fixing things as well, albeit in a much different way.
